What is it?
Reiki is a type of energy medicine based on the belief that the body has energy fields which interact with its own biological systems in order to promote healing and wellness. It is theorized that reiki can help with nearly any condition, including pain, anxiety, fatigue and depression.
During a reiki session, a practitioner lightly places their hands on or just above a person with the intent of facilitating a person’s healing response through their energy fields. It is a simple and safe complementary health approach, with no evidence base of known side effects.
What does the research say?
While the practice of reiki is gaining popularity and recognition as a complementary health approach, high-quality research has yet to be done to examine and document the benefits and effectiveness of it.
Regardless, countless instances of anecdotal evidence support the idea that reiki can be very beneficial in its ability to aid in the healing process for any number of specific conditions, enhance spiritual well-being, induce relaxation or simply promote general well-being.
